This class meets via Google Meet. Work is submitted electronically and then read and critiqued during the virtual class.

Assignments, discussion, and critiques will delve more deeply into the process of creating and sustaining a strong narrative voice.

The NYC Level II class is an eight-week to students from the New York or Hudson Valley Writers Studio program who have completed two terms of Level I and are eager to learn additional craft. Some attention will be devoted to working with students coming from the Advanced Hudson Valley program who will be encouraged to work on one story throughout the term. For most students, the weekly routine will be much like that of Level I, but with assignments, discussion, and critiques that delve more deeply and broadly into the process of creating and sustaining a strong narrative voice, and exploring the power of creating tension between the narrator’s tone of voice and the piece’s underlying mood. Some of the eight weeks are spent revising and deepening exercises from earlier in the term.
