This class helps students use a full range of techniques to gain greater emotional freedom and depth in their work. Emphasis is placed on creating and sustaining an effective artistic distance while enhancing their relationship and connection to the writing process and material. Students at this level work on publishable short stories, poems, memoirs and novels.

Students will attend this writing class at the scheduled times via Zoom. Exercises will be shared electronically, and the format of the live class will be the same as in-person classes, with students and teachers responding to work in class and discussing the next week’s exercise.

Exercises are discussed and built collaboratively based on the weekly Writers Studio Craft Class, in which all Level 4/5 students must be enrolled.

The prerequisites for this class are Level 3 or the Intermediate workshop as well as the Online Journal Writing with a Persona class. Students may register for this class with the teacher's permission.

The Writers Studio San Francisco classes meet once a week for eight weeks. For more information, please contact Mark Peterson at [email protected].
