Students will attend San Francisco writing classes at their scheduled times via Zoom (with or without cameras enabled). Your exercises will be shared electronically, and the format of the live class will be the same as when you attend class in person, with students and teachers responding to your work and discussing the next week’s exercise.

The goal of this class is to help students use a full range of technique to gain greater emotional freedom and depth in their work. They learn to create and sustain an effective artistic distance. We explore this subtle but powerful idea further in The Writers Studio Craft Class, in which all Advanced students must be enrolled.

Students who have created a successful narrative persona in an exercise are encouraged to use that exercise as a germ for a story. As students work on that story, they are free to post it, two pages at a time, over successive weeks of the term. It’s very instructive for the other students in the class to watch The Writers Studio method flower in this way.

Open only to students who have completed The Writers Studio San Francisco Intermediate Workshop, and upon recommendation of the teacher.

The Writers Studio San Francisco classes meet once a week for eight weeks.  For more information, please contact Gail Ford at (510) 406-0520 or [email protected].
