The Writers Studio Tutorial Program is a great option for all writers, including those of high school age, who can’t attend weekly workshops, who want to focus exclusively on a personal project, or who want to concentrate on their work on a one-to-one basis with one of our teachers. They are all taught by our experienced teachers. We ask students to fill out an informal questionnaire in advance so that we can suggest a teacher whose interests and expertise will be a good match.

For emerging writers, we teach the basics of narrative and an array of techniques that are essential to understanding the writing process. For more experienced writers, we can assist in solidifying a narrative voice in fiction or poetry through a series of exercises. For established writers, we can help in the shaping, completion or revision of a fiction or poetry manuscript.

Our tutorials offer in-depth critiques of the student’s writing, as well as suggestions for outside reading to help students develop the craft they need to achieve their goals.

Tutorials are available to students anywhere in the world. A single one-hour session may be scheduled with a teacher for $240. A full tutorial costs $1,925 for 20 hours of teacher time, which is usually a mix of preparation and conversations or written feedback, to be determined by teacher and student. The tutorials can be conducted in person, via phone, video or e-mail. Sessions generally take place once a week or once every two weeks, over a period of time that does not exceed six months.
